» Your place or ours?

McDonald’s birthday parties were declining, as families hesitated to associate celebrations with the brand following the boycott. At the same time, a cultural shift toward highly curated at-home parties in the Middle East increased pressure on parents, with 74% saying birthday planning was more stressful than work. What should be joyful moments had become time-consuming and emotionally taxing productions. It split everyday home environments into two emotional realities: Outside — chaos, mess, real fun. Inside — order, control, perfection. No product. No restaurant. Just a truth parents instantly recognize.

To re-enter the conversation, we reframed what makes a great birthday through a series of print ads.

“Your place or ours?” captured the tension between the perfect party parents plan and the birthday kids actually want. The campaign exposed the gap between adult expectations and children’s priorities. The visuals contrasted playful mess, movement, and energy with the idea of a clean, controlled home. While parents focus on keeping the house orderly and presentable, kids remember freedom, noise, and fun.

Turning the line into a question was key. “Your place or ours?” transformed this contrast into a choice, prompting parents to reflect on the kind of experience they wanted to give their child. Each poster included a QR code linking directly to WhatsApp for instant planning, positioning McDonald’s as the solve to deliver the birthday kids love without the stress, pressure, or expectations of hosting at home.
