INTEGRATED CAMPAIGN
Smartphones have pretty much ruined society, haven’t they? 90% of people admit to habitually scrolling on nights out, with 37% believing they check their phones more often than they should. We teamed up with U.S. fashion brand Bodega and HMD to create The Boring Phone.

» The Idea

The ‘Boring Phone’ helps you socialise like it’s 1997. There’s more to social life, when there’s less on your phone. The stylish yet bare-bones device limits your digital options so you can focus on connecting with the people around you. Heineken takes a stand towards the importance of socialising, recognising the value of genuine connections in a tech-immersed society.

The introduction of The Boring Phone isn’t merely about disconnecting from mobiles; it’s about prioritising authentic interactions. It empowers individuals to reclaim their social lives and foster engagement in every shared moment. By creatively leveraging the resurgence of Y2K aesthetics and the pixelated style, the campaign brings back the appeal of dumb phones. Merging nostalgia and innovation while embracing screen-free moments, The Boring Phone invites people to rediscover the power of human connection.

“The new flip phone that revolutionise your life.”

» The Execution

Inspired by the rise of ‘Newtro’ fashion (think early 2000s nostalgia), The Boring Phone boasts a frosty, transparent case and holographic stickers, complete with Heineken green buttons. But the coolest feature is its lack of features. No Instagram, no email, just enough tech to stay connected without getting sucked into the digital vortex.

The Boring Phone’s primary function is to send and receive calls and text messages. You can also take a few low-res photos and play a boring game called Quick Snake, which lets you win instantly. It has an email app but no memory for receiving emails.

The Boring Phone debuted at 2024 Milan Design Week. This limited-edition «dumbphone» ditches the endless apps and social media feeds to focus on the essentials: reclaiming your evenings.
